Did You Know:

November is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Awareness Month. COPD is a lung disease that causes breathing difficulties over the course of time. COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S.

Spirometry, a simple breathing test, can identify if a person has COPD and necessary treatment options.

Consider adding a COPD test to your next screening event to help identify and treat this condition in your community.

Providence St. Peter Promotes Heart Healthy Prevention and Knowledge for Healthy, Happy Lives

The Providence St. Peter Hospital Regional Heart Center  in Olympia, Washington is a leader in prevention and early diagnosis, offering everything from state-of-the-art cardiac intervention and rehabilitation services, to community lectures, to a women's heart health program that educates residents on how to live heart healthy.

A cornerstone of Providence's preventative and educational efforts is its one-hour HeartSmart screening. The screening is a comprehensive session with an exercise physiologist that gives an inside look at a patient's risk and provides him or her with vital information that could be lifesaving.

The HeartSmart screening includes:

 Heart risk assessment
 Height and weight check
Resting EKG and Pocket EKG Card
 Body mass index (BMI) measurement
 Blood pressure reading
 Body fat composition analysis
 Lipid and glucose profile
 Peripheral vascular disease screening
 One-to-one risk factor analysis

Through its HeartSmart screenings, Providence St. Peter Hospital fulfills two objectives. It identifies high risk patients and directs them to necessary, follow-up heart care. At the same time, it provides these same patients with the information they need to receive proper care in the event of a medical emergency.

Lyndean Williams, Providence's HeartSmart Clinic Coordinator, says that this is achieved, in part, by incorporating the Pocket EKG service into their HeartSmart screening. Lyndean says:

"I've been extremely pleased with [the Pocket EKG] services...and the positive response from pcp's and my participants. Several have been hospitalized and treated appropriately, due to their having a comparative baseline EKG, my husband included."

As a certified paramedic, Lyndean knows that during a medical emergency, immediate access to a baseline EKG reference and relevant patient history can be lifesaving. This is why, before learning of the Pocket EKG Program, she was carrying a paper version of her own EKG and now advocates that her HeartSmart participants carry their own baseline EKG in the form of  a Pocket EKG Card.

Cardiomark Reports Help Track Pocket EKG Impact/ROI

Cardiomark is now offering a new, free report service to all organizations enrolled in our Pocket EKG Program. Our reports include the following:

  • All data received by us when you order a Pocket EKG Card on behalf of a patient, organized in an excel spreadsheet*
  • Includes all your screening participants/patients and their demographic information, specific to a time period defined by you

There are key benefits inherent to these reports:

  • Assists with tracking ROI results for your screening campaigns
  • Works as a template to track the screening participants coming back to your health system for follow-up due to the EKG results they received from your screening so that you have a comprehensive log of activity
  • Please click here to view a Sample Report in PDF format

* This information will never be used by us for marketing or advertising but as it was initially provided to us by your organization, the transfer of data is a HIPAA compliant transaction that enables us to return your patient information to your organization in an ordered, sort-able fashion to better keep track of your Pocket EKG orders and patients.
